Megan - Mammography Technologist

Traveling Mammography Technologist takes a leap of faith

"Hi! I’m Megan T. and I’m a Mammography Technologist from a small town called Nederland, TX. I decided that it was time for a big change in my life, so I ventured out of my comfort zone and took a huge jump by deciding to start traveling for my career. I once read a quote somewhere that said, “Don’t miss out on something that could be great just because it could also be difficult.” Those words screamed at me, and ever since then, I’ve been telling myself I can do anything. I just have to put my determination into it. And here I am, in Houston, TX on my first traveling assignment doing what I never thought I could do!

Career Journey: From Leadership to Burnout to New Adventures

I have been working as a Mammography Technologist for almost 15 years at the same hospital in my hometown my entire career. I worked my way up to leadership and got promoted to Lead Mammography Technologist and Lead Radiology Technologist. With those leadership roles, it was a lot of responsibility, and I felt as though I was getting a little burnt out. It was easy to forget that it’s important to have a good work/life balance. So, I prayed about it. HARD. Then I started to look to see what else is out there in this big world! I soon after found my recruiter, Nicole, with American Traveler, and she has helped me transition from a staff position into a travel position very effortlessly!

Overcoming Doubts: Finding Strength in Challenges

Once I started my assignment in Houston I was very nervous, and I started questioning all of the things I was diving into. I felt like I was taking a huge cold plunge and jumping all the way into this overwhelming big world! However, I have learned so much about myself on this journey. I’ve learned that I can chase a dream, no matter how difficult it might seem. I’ve learned I’m more outgoing than I thought I was, because going to new places and meeting new people… that can be scary for an adult who has only known one town her whole life! I’ve also learned that there are patients in different areas that need my compassion and my attention.

Rediscovering Passion for Patient Care

Luckily on this traveling journey, I’ve been able to reignite the flame and the passion I have for the work that I do. I am reminded every day I go to my job that there is someone’s family member that is relying on ME to take care of them, and I am able to be someone they can depend on while they are going through a very anxious and vulnerable procedure. It’s helped me remember why I even wanted to start working as a Mammography Technologist in the first place.

Take the Leap!

So if you’re looking for a change in your life, or if you’re like me and just want to prove to yourself you can do big things in your life, take the leap of faith and just try it! You will surprise yourself with what you can do!"
