This OR Tech Is Touring the Country While Learning on the Job
Kristin, an Operating Room Tech, kicks off her travel adventure in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with her lovable golden retriever.
Kristin Finds Adventure through American Traveler
Hungry for new challenges and eager to see the country, Operating Room Tech, Kristin R., checked many professional staffing sites before settling on American Traveler. One big reason she chose American Traveler was because of her
cherished Golden Retriever . She wanted him to be a part of her traveling professional life, and it wasn't easy to find housing that welcomed him along. Kristin remarked that American Traveler helped her see that traveling with pets was 100% possible. "As you can see from the photos, he loves the snow."
Steamboat Springs is a big change from Nashville. How did you choose it?
"
Steamboat is a gorgeous place that I would have never known about had it not been for my recruiter, finding me an awesome place to work. I told her I wanted to go somewhere fun and I love it here."
Kristin goes on to enthuse about her new neighborhood: "My apartment is amazing! I literally walk outside my door and I am at the base of the mountain. I jump on my snowboard and off I go. The hospital is only about a mile away."
Does living in snowboard country help you achieve your personal goals?
"I took on a
Surgical Tech job not only to have the opportunity to help people, but also to be able to constantly challenge myself with the ever-changing medical field."
Kristin explains that each new assignment adds to her skill set, deepening her competency and increasing her marketability: "Every travel assignment I always learn new do's and don'ts of traveling. I also get to add new skills. I
can now add C sections and GI scopes to my resume!"
Kristin's eagerness for new professional skills is closely connected to her desire to experience new regions of the country: "My goals for traveling are to see as many amazing places as possible while also gaining so much experience and knowledge along the way!"
Do you have any words of wisdom for other professionals wondering if a travel assignment is right for them?
In answering this question, Kristin beautifully captures her adaptability and zest for life: "If I were talking to a possible traveler, I would say go for it! I think a traveler has to have that 'go get 'em attitude' towards everything.
Also, a lot of time you have to take some things with a grain of salt and move on." She goes on to tell more about the : "I think anyone could travel as long as they have the basic experience under their belt and also possess an adventurous and open-minded personality. I do not regret a single day of my traveling so far, and I look forward to many more assignments in my future!"
