Traveling CST at work

Hard-Working CST Puts her Heart into her Job

Certified Surgical Tech takes multiple assignments throughout Texas enjoying her life as a traveler.
Teresa B.’s traveling took her to several locations in Texas, including an assignment in a Corpus Christi CVOR unit, and a rewarding position at a renowned teaching hospital in Houston. Teresa says that her travel assignments have been quite a learning experience, elaborating:
“That assignment was my first exposure to hybrid surgeries. Learning all I could about Type A dissections and ‘on the pump’ heart surgeries when I was used to ‘off the pump’ is something I’ll never forget in my I saw my facility do 10 heart transplants! It’s amazing how big and well-equipped the Texas healthcare system is. In the area where I was working, there are a total of 15 hospitals!”
When American Traveler asked this hard-working OR Tech about the personal side of living in Houston, Teresa pointed out that the assignment was a reunion of sorts.
“I used to live here in my 20s. It was easy to get around the city then, and it is now too. I like to get on the Metro on my days off and ride it to all the different museums located near work.”
Teresa’s housing was in an area where thousands of medical professionals like herself use Houston’s Metro system -- along with a free shuttle service -- to get around. Beautiful parks and gardens, like Hermann Park, provide a quiet respite in bustling Texas cities like Houston. The housing allowance, part of a generous benefits package, is another reason that traveling in Texas is a breeze.
"I liked the amenities in my accommodations," she told American Traveler. “It had great security, the laundry facilities were convenient, and I got a lot of use out of the gym.”
So, did this physically fit CST in impeccable scrubs have any more highlights to share with American Traveler? Just that she finds her traveling surgical tech career very rewarding.
"I go into work every day knowing that it’s my job to stabilize the sickest patients, so they can tolerate heart surgery and go on and enjoy a healthy life.”
