American Traveler seeks a Surgical Assistant/CST for a Level II Trauma Center OR, requiring strong ortho and neuro surgical experience and proficiency in both surgical assist and surgical tech duties.

Details

• Work in a 10-suite operating room running 7 rooms at a time within a Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
• Average census of 12-20 cases per day
• Adult patient population includes ortho/neuro cases such as total joints, craniotomies, laminectomies (level 1-2), fusions, robotic surgeries (DaVinci XI), gallbladder, colectomy, general surgery, bariatric, and urology cases
• Pediatric caseload includes ENT and emergent cases such as appendectomies
• Must be comfortable performing both Surgical Assistant and Surgical Technologist duties interchangeably
• EPIC EMR system used for documentation
• Utilizes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and the DaVinci XI Robot
• Day shift schedule with hours varying between 0630-1500, 0630-1700, and 0630-1900
• No floating required
• On-call requirements include 4 weeknight call shifts per month (end of shift to 0630 the following morning) and 1 full weekend per month (end of shift Friday to Monday 0630)
• 30-minute response time required for call
• Covers OB call after 1700 on weekdays and weekends
• Holiday coverage is call-only and included in rotation

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience required across all specialties
• Minimum of 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area, with recent experience within the last year
• BLS certification required
• CSA certification required; CST certification preferred
• License required if applicable
• Strong experience in orthopedic procedures including total joints and fem/tibial rodding
• Strong experience in neurosurgical procedures including laminectomies and burr holes
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Perform surgical assistant and surgical technologist duties interchangeably across ortho, neuro, general, and ENT cases
• Work alongside an in-house team of RNs and Surgical Techs providing 24/7 trauma support
• Supported by a charge nurse, educator, phlebotomy/RN staff, unit secretary, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
• Anesthesia provides bedside tele monitoring during procedures
• Complete one week of orientation with a preceptor, including time with the unit educator
• On-call responsibilities are divided among Surgical Assistants, including weeknight, weekend, and holiday coverage
• A sleep room is available on a first-come, first-served basis during call shifts, with a key request required in advance from the manager
• RTO requests are approved through the unit manager
• Scrubs are provided by the facility and parking is free
• Unit culture is described as travel-friendly and welcoming to travelers
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
• Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible for this travel assignment
