American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist with 3 years of experience in a Level II or higher trauma OR and prior travel experience for a 7-room surgical suite position.

Details

• Acute care hospital OR setting within a 7-room surgical suite
• Level II trauma center
• 10-hour day shifts, typically 0700-1730 with +/- 30 minutes flexibility at shift start/end
• Call required in rotation, with up to 2 weekends per 13-week assignment (mix of call and regular shifts)
• May float to a second campus location approximately 3 miles away
• Uses EPIC charting system along with SIS, MAK, and eChart electronic charting systems
• Utilizes Storz Video equipment, Midas, Stryker drills, Leica microscopes, Storz morcellator, Force Triad and Force FX cautery machines, Aquamantys machines, Osteomed drills, and Sani Serve fluid warmer/cooler
• Surgical beds/positioning includes Jackson spine and fracture tables, Tenent positioner, and Skytron/Getinge OR beds

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a busy surgical area at a Level II or higher trauma facility
• Previous travel experience required
• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or successful completion of a Surgical Technology program required (on-the-job training or Surgical Technician certifications not accepted)
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• CST certification preferred
• License required if applicable
• Strong experience required in General surgery (robotic and open procedures), Orthopedics (fractures, total joints), ENT (pediatrics, T&A's, BMT's, parathyroid, thyroid, neck, ear, sinus procedures), Vascular (carotid, AAA, hybrid cases, open procedures), Robotics (da Vinci XI), and GYN/Urology (robotic and open procedures)
• Dental and plastics experience preferred

Additional Information

• Function as a member of the multidisciplinary surgical team providing safe care for surgical patients of all age groups
• Prepare, organize, and anticipate needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for operative procedures in the scrub role
• Practice aseptic technique and infection control principles specific to the OR
• Pass surgical instruments and supplies safely and efficiently in the OR and labor and delivery room
• Identify, preserve, and manage tissue and fluid specimens and cultures
• Assist the perioperative nurse with patient care including transporting and positioning, and perform instrument/supply counts
• Deliver medications to the appropriate operating room and prepare medication for the sterile field under direct RN and physician supervision
• May apply skin staples once skin edges are approximated by a credentialed physician/PA/APRN, and may apply skin sealant and steri-strips as part of dressing after skin closure
• Will not first assist with procedures or perform incision closures
• Scrubs are provided by the facility; footwear with holes is not permitted
• 12 hours of non-billable orientation provided
• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this position
