American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Assistant with 2 years of experience for a Level III Trauma Center's General/Neuro Surgery Room on day shift.

• Work in a hospital Surgery Room with 21 OR beds at a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
• General/Neuro surgical assistant role supporting a 1:1 patient ratio
• 8-hour day shift with variable start times between 5:30am-7am
• Perform Neuro/ENT procedures including spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies), cranial surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdural, EVDs), and ENT procedures (neck dissections, sinus surgery, tonsils, tympanoplasty)
• Utilize navigation systems including Medtronic Stealth, Stryker, and Synaptive Navigation
• Orthopedic case exposure including fractures, hip and knee replacements, spine, hand, foot/ankle, shoulder, and arthroscopy procedures using specialty tables and positioning equipment
• General surgery exposure to breast/plastics, vascular, laparoscopic, oncology, GU, and GYN cases
• Cross-trained to float to General Main OR specialty and Urology center, with no floating to other hospitals or sites
• On-call requirements with 30-minute response time on an 8-week rotating call schedule, including EOS call and 1-2 weekend call shifts
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris, and Pyxis systems

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Assistant required
• BLS certification required
• Surgical Assistant certification required from NBSTSA, ABSA, or NCCSA
• Active license required if applicable
• Epic EMR experience required
• Trauma center and Magnet-designated facility experience preferred
• Strong background in robotic surgery required if seeking robot case assignments

Additional Information

• Provide surgical assistance across Neuro, ENT, Orthopedic, and General surgical specialties
• Receive support from Charge Nurses, Leads, Supervisors, and unit Manager
• Orientation lasts approximately 1-1.5 weeks depending on team and shift assignment
• Holiday weeks offer the option to work 4x10-hour shifts or take the holiday unpaid
• Surgical scrubs are provided by the hospital; scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant
• Free parking and shuttle service available to and from the parking structure
• On-campus dining options include Starbucks and a cafeteria
• No call rooms are available on-site
• First-time travelers are not recommended for this position without further supervisor approval
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for this travel position
