American Traveler seeks a Surgical Technologist - First Assist with CVOR experience for a 15-suite hospital surgical services department.

• Hospital surgical services department with 15 OR suites, including hybrid and cardiothoracic rooms
• Supporting areas include PACU, sterile supply, pharmacy, offices, and scheduling
• First shift schedule, Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
• Call requirements include every other day and every other weekend
• 18-week contract assignment

Requirements

• Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or comparable military training
• Completion of a Surgical First Assistant Program
• BLS certification required
• NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) credential required
• CVOR experience required
• License required if applicable
• 6 to 12 months of experience preferred

Additional Information

• Functions as the surgeon's chief assistant in the operating room, supervised by the department director and nurse manager
• Receives assignments from the charge nurse and/or RN in charge of the room
• Scrubs into cases and assists with set-up and opening of sterile supplies
• Ensures instruments and supplies are available and thoroughly sterilized for scheduled cases
• Maintains the sterile field throughout the case and alerts circulating nurse of any risks or variances
• Assists with patient positioning and sterile draping
• Passes instruments and assists the physician as needed
• May clamp, cauterize, tie, and apply ligating clamps, hemostatic clips, and hemostatic agents on vessels and tissue
• May apply running or interrupted sutures on wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin
• First assists in cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic) after completing an approved course
• Performs point-of-use cleaning of instruments and follows standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile
• Works with circulating nurse and orderlies to perform post-case cleaning duties and ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure
• Notifies appropriate leadership of any damaged instruments at the end of a case
