American Traveler is seeking a Surgical Tech - First Assistant (CSFA) with cardiovascular experience for a hospital Surgical Services position in Paducah, KY.

• Hospital-based Surgical Services unit with a focus on cardiothoracic and general surgical procedures
• Day shift schedule, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 40 hours per week
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or comparable military training required
• Completion of a Surgical First Assistant Program required
• NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credential required
• BLS certification required
• No prior experience required; 6–12 months of experience preferred
• License required if applicable
• MM/DD of date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Functions as the surgeon's chief assistant in the OR, supervised by the department director and nurse manager
• Scrubs into cases and assists the primary scrub with setup, opening sterile supplies, and ensuring all instruments are properly sterilized and available
• Maintains the sterile field throughout case setup and duration
• Assists with patient positioning and sterile draping
• Alerts the circulating nurse of identified risks or deviations from standard operating procedures
• Performs first assist duties in cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic) upon completion of an approved course
• May clamp, cauterize, tie, apply ligating clamps, hemostatic clips, and place hemostatic agents on vessels and tissue
• May apply running or interrupted sutures across wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin
• Assists the circulating RN with duties as needed to support appropriate patient care interventions
• Responsible for point-of-use instrument cleaning, breakdown, and transport to Central Sterile Processing per established standards
• Notifies appropriate leadership of any damaged instruments identified at end of case
• Participates in post-case cleaning to ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure
