American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Dual Psychiatric (Behavioral Health) position requiring BLS and CPI/MAB/Secure certifications, with de-escalation skills and Cerner EMR experience preferred.

Details

• 18-bed Dual Psych unit incorporating addiction and mental health diagnoses
• Adult patient population ages 19–55
• Day shift patient ratio: 1:6–8; Night shift patient ratio: 1:8–10
• 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
• EMR: Cerner; medication dispensing via Omnicell
• Float may be required to like psych units, including Adolescent Psych and Adult Psych
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend, or 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule
• 4-week schedule cycle

Requirements

• Active AL or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• CPI, MAB, or Secure (crisis prevention/de-escalation) certification required prior to start
• De-escalation skills required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• First-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of experience and Cerner EMR experience
• Cerner EMR experience required for first-time travelers; preferred for all candidates

Additional Information

• Unit is supported by Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), a Unit Clerk on days, a Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy services, and a Psych NP on days
• Orientation for new hires or those with more than 1 year away: 24 hours in classroom plus 36 hours on the unit
• Holiday coverage is expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific holiday dates are not contractually guaranteed off
• Extensive RTO blackout dates are in effect throughout the contract period — candidates should be prepared for limited time-off availability during peak periods
• Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
• RNs may wear any scrub color
• An interview is required; this facility does not use auto-offers
• Opportunity to pick up overtime shifts is available
