American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PICU experience and proficiency in ventilator/trach management, drip management, and a wide range of pediatric patient care skills.

Details

• Work in a 16-bed PICU within a newly opened Level II Trauma Center facility (opened May 2026)
• Unit serves a mixed patient population including neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical pediatric cases
• Patient types include respiratory patients on high flow, CPAP, and BiPAP; trach patients; oncology/chemo patients; RSV, asthma, and COVID cases; MIS-C; new onset diabetes with insulin drips; chronically ill and congenital heart defect patients; trauma cases (falls, MVAs); and surgical cases (appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT, VP shunts, bowel obstructions, broken bones, cardiac, and neuro)
• Unit does not care for solid organ transplant, major burn, or stem cell transplant patients
• ECMO is managed by ECMO specialists; travelers are not expected to manage the ECMO machine
• CRRT (using Prismax) is low volume on the unit and primarily assigned to core staff, though travelers with prior CRRT experience may be trained on the Prismax
• EMR: Epic (preferred)
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating may be required to Med/Surg or the ED in a Helping Hands or Constant Observer capacity

Requirements

• Active WA RN license or compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS and PALS
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G-tube/J-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, Foley insertion and management, and discharge planning
• CRRT experience (Prismax) preferred
• CICU experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• At least one supervisor-level reference (charge nurse, manager, director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be needed prior to start

• PICU beds are interchangeable with overflow from Med/Surg, reflecting a mixed acuity environment
• During COVID surges (tier 3), the unit may provide care to patients up to age 30 (extremely rare)
• Severe facial wounds, eye injuries, or penetrating trauma are transferred to a Level I Trauma Center
• Scrubs of any color are acceptable; hooded shirts and long sleeves are not permitted (sleeves must be able to be pulled above the elbow)
