Description

American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with at least 3 years of CST experience, including general and orthopedic/total joint cases, for a 13-week OR assignment at a rural community hospital.

Details

• Acute care hospital OR setting with 7 suites averaging 5–25 cases per day
• Rural community hospital performing a wide variety of surgical cases including general surgery, orthopedic/sports medicine, plastics and cosmetics, podiatry, cataract/eye procedures, and OB/GYN/women's health (non-cancer related)
• Candidates comfortable transitioning between scrubbing and first assisting are preferred
• Schedule is 5x8-hour shifts per week, 0645–1515, with late stay and on-call rotations; block scheduling managed by the unit manager — travelers are expected to be flexible to fill gaps in permanent staff scheduling
• Weeknight call required 1–2 times per week with approximately 15.5 hours of weeknight call coverage
• Weekend call required 1–2 times per month, consisting of 24-hour call shifts (Saturday 0645 to Sunday 0645, and Sunday 0645 to Monday 0645)
• Holiday call rotation may be required, covering the day before and day of, or the day of and day after a holiday; if a holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, coverage may extend to include the adjacent weekend
• Call response time is within 30 minutes
• May be asked to float into OR scrub, PAA/PACU, or sterile processing roles as needed
• Charting system is Cerner

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of CST experience required
• Experience in general surgery and orthopedic surgery, specifically total joints, is required
• Experience in facilities of similar size, including Trauma Level 3 or 4 and/or Critical Access Hospitals, is required
• CSFA (Certified Surgical First Assist) credential via NBSTSA required
• Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program required; NBSTSA CST certification preferred
• BLS certification from AHA or ARC required
• Plastics experience preferred
• License required if applicable
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

• Perform first assist duties in the OR across a broad range of surgical specialties in a rural community hospital environment
• Scrub for OR cases as needed, with the expectation of flexibility between first assist and scrub roles
• Facility scrubs are provided on-site and may not be worn outside the facility; candidates should arrive dressed presentably
• Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor, plus 1–2 call shifts with a preceptor
