American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Adult Behavioral Health (Psych) position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience.

Details

• Adult Behavioral Health unit with 24 beds and a daily census of 18–20 patients
• Patient population consists of adults 18+ with diagnoses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation; unit may also serve postpartum patients with compounding psychiatric diagnoses
• Open day room unit serving all diagnoses; not a designated detox center, though some patients may be naturally detoxing
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• EMR: Epic (experience required); Encompass also in use
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, seclusion room, restraint bed, and restraint chair
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating may be required to the Pediatric Behavioral Health unit

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Strong de-escalation and interpersonal communication skills required
• Experience with physical and medical restraints, medication administration, and clinical documentation required
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Provides direct and indirect psychiatric patient care in accordance with the treatment team's established plan
• Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and family members through participation in department and team treatment programs
• Experience facilitating patient groups is a plus but not required
• Unit support staff includes CNAs, Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, and phlebotomy; Rapid Response Team, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist are available 24/7
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
