Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele position at an acute care hospital in Lufkin, TX, requiring telemetry experience and a valid TX or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a dedicated Med/Surg Tele unit (Kurth Tower)
• 18-bed unit with a patient ratio of 6:1 (RN) and PCTs available at 12:1
• Common diagnoses include CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and general med/surg telemetry cases
• Telemetry monitor techs are present on the unit, but RNs are expected to independently read cardiac strips
• Patients on CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen are managed on this unit
• Charting is performed in Paragon EMR
• Day shift, 12-hour shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Schedule is manager-determined; block scheduling is not available
• Every other weekend is required
• Holiday coverage is required
• Floating to all med/surg units is required
• No on-call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong communication and time management skills required
• Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips required
• A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 12 hours of department-specific orientation for the Med/Surg Tele unit
• Charge nurses, house supervisors, and nurse educators are available on the unit for support
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit or affiliated facility (including CHI and Dignity Health) within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
