American Traveler is seeking a Polysomnographer / Sleep Technologist for a 13-week night shift contract at an off-campus sleep clinic in Rapid City, SD, requiring 2+ years of experience and RPSGT, RST, or RRT with SDS credentials.

Details

• Off-campus sleep clinic setting open 6 nights per week in Rapid City, SD
• Sleep Medicine unit with 10 beds and an average census of 8–10 patients per night
• Patient population includes pediatric (ages 3+) and adult patients; pediatric experience is preferred but not required
• Common diagnoses include central and obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy rule-out, parasomnias, sleep-related movement disorders, and other sleep disorders
• Standard patient ratio is 1:2; ratio is 1:1 for patients ages 3–4 or for pediatric patients with developmental issues
• Ambulatory patients are the primary population; patients requiring additional assistance must have a companion present
• Treatment modalities include CPAP, BiPAP, O2, and ASV
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment: Nihon Kohden Polysmith Sleep System
• 12-hour night shifts, 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation could be every weekend depending on facility needs
• No on-call required
• No floating required

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of polysomnography experience required
• Current BLS required
• One of the following certifications required: RPSGT (BRPT), RST (ABSM), or RRT with SDS credentials
• License required if applicable
• Experience with pediatric and adult sleep study patients
• Proficiency with PAP therapies including CPAP, BiPAP, and ASV
• Experience applying and monitoring electrodes, bands, thermistors, and other monitoring probes
• Ability to perform sleep study scoring
• Experience with Epic EMR
• First-time travelers will not be considered
• Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include patient prep (approximately 1 hour per patient), electrode and sensor application, baseline documentation, sleep study scoring, and PAP mask fitting
• Technologists are expected to educate patients about the testing process and address patient questions
• Department support includes 2–3 additional techs on shift, a Medical Director available by phone overnight, management available by phone, an LPN on-site until 8:00 PM, and a receptionist until 8:00 PM
• 24-hour tech support available by phone for equipment issues; AED is on-site and 911 is the protocol for emergencies
• Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) and 1 unit orientation shift
• Holiday coverage is expected for approximately 50% of holidays within the contract period
• RTO requests are subject to manager approval
• Dark gray scrubs required
