American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology night shift position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, with oncology skills and a valid MO or compact RN license required.

Details

• Hybrid outpatient oncology department featuring 8 infusion/treatment chairs and 7 private rooms/beds for isolation patients and provider evaluations
• Patient population includes hematologic malignancy, medical oncology, and gynecologic oncology patients
• Patients may be held in the department for over 24 hours while awaiting an inpatient bed
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Requires 4 weekend shifts per contract, with flexibility based on unit needs
• Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
• No on-call requirements
• Block scheduling is not available
• Procedures performed include chemotherapy/biotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV fluids, electrolyte replacement, EKGs, phlebotomy, and blood glucose monitoring
• Charting via Epic (experience required)
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred; candidates without chemo cert may be considered but cannot be auto-offered
• OCN certification preferred
• Minimum 1 year of oncology RN experience required
• Required skills include: biotherapy side effect recognition and management, chemotherapy administration and abnormal lab value communication, port access and care, central line blood draws and care, PICC line care, IV starts, infusion pump management, blood/blood product administration, administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, antiemetics, antibiotics, corticosteroids, Neupogen, and IV push narcotics
• Additional required competencies: medication tolerance/dependence assessment, isolation and neutropenic precautions, telemetry monitoring, patient/family education, and symptom management (skin/mucous membrane changes, altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, neuropathy)
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Daytime hours (7:00 AM–11:00 PM) are primarily focused on infusion room treatments; overnight hours include completing infusions and managing patient evaluations
• Evaluation patients are treated in the outpatient department and are either discharged home post-treatment or admitted to inpatient
• A provider is on site 24/7 with RN and PCT support for evaluations and isolation patients
• Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital with 1,266 staffed beds
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Parking is available at $15/day or $70/month
• No RTO during the first week of orientation; no more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
• Travelers may remain for up to 18 months before requiring a 3-month break in service
• Former permanent employees of the BJC health system must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
