American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with a minimum of 3 years of OR experience for an evening-shift position at a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL.

Details

• Evening shift schedule, 5x8 hours (14:45–23:15)
• High-volume OR environment averaging 50–60 cases per day
• Acute care hospital setting with 562 staffed beds — Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility
• Wide-ranging surgical case mix including general surgery, ENT, endoscopy, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, urology, oral surgery, and trauma cases
• On-call required as needed per department needs
• Weekend obligation required once per month, totaling 16 hours
• Floating within scope of practice is required, including potential float to an affiliate hospital nearby
• Charting performed in Cerner
• Scrubs are provided for this role
• Free parking available on-site via permit obtained during orientation

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of OR surgical tech experience required
• General OR experience in a teaching hospital required
• Trauma Level I experience required
• BLS certification required — AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards not accepted
• CST preferred
• License required if applicable
• Proficiency in ENT procedures: direct laryngoscopy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy
• Proficiency in endoscopic procedures: colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
• Proficiency in general surgery: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, open/lap colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, mastectomy, partial/total thyroidectomy
• Proficiency in gynecology: abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, A/P repair, bilateral tubal ligation, D&C, laparoscopic-assisted gynecological procedures
• Proficiency in neurosurgery: craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
• Proficiency in oral surgery: repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic
• Proficiency in orthopedics: arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, closed/open reduction of fractures, laminectomy/discectomy
• Proficiency in plastic surgery: free flap microvascular procedures
• Proficiency in trauma cases: amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, MVA with multiple injuries
• Proficiency in urology: cystoscopy, laparoscopic-assisted cases, nephrectomy, ureteroscopy
• Experience with surgical equipment including multiple drill types, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources/cords
• Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic technique, isolation precautions, radiation safety, sharps safety, specimen handling/labeling, and universal protocol (time out) procedures
• Fire safety training/experience required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Additional Information

• Candidates must be physically present in Illinois at least 3 business days prior to the compliance hard deadline to meet fingerprinting requirements
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Candidates are expected to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
• Time off requests of more than 5 non-holiday days require facility approval; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of initial application
• Travel pairs are not accepted for this position
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
