American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 3 years of experience for an evening-shift OR position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois.

Details

• Evening shift position working 5x8-hour days from 14:45–23:15
• High-volume OR environment averaging 50–60 cases per day
• Acute care hospital setting with Level I Trauma designation and Magnet status (562 staffed beds)
• Weekend obligation required once per month, totaling 16 hours
• On-call required as needed per department needs
• Floating within scope of practice is required, including to affiliate hospitals nearby
• Charting performed in Cerner
• Scrubs are provided for this role
• Free parking available on-site with a permit obtained during orientation

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of OR Surgical Tech experience required
• BLS certification required; AHA or Red Cross accepted (RQI AHA cards not accepted)
• CST preferred; license required if applicable
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Experience in a General OR setting required
• Proficiency across multiple surgical specialties required, including: ENT (direct laryngoscopy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy), Endoscopy (colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange), General Surgery (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, open/LAP colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy), Gynecology (abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, A/P repair, bilateral tubal ligation, D&C, laparoscopic GYN procedures), Neurosurgery (craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion), Oral Surgery (repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic), Orthopedics (arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, open/closed fracture reduction), Plastic Surgery (free flap/microvascular), Trauma (amputations, GSW/stab wounds, MVA with multiple injuries), and Urology (cystoscopy, laparoscopic cases, nephrectomy, ureteroscopy)
• Equipment experience required: multiple drill types, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources/cords
• Skills required: aseptic technique, isolation precautions, radiation safety, sharps safety, specimen handling/labeling, and universal protocol (time-out) procedures
• Fire safety/emergency management knowledge required
• Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Must be in Illinois at least 3 business days prior to the compliance hard deadline to fulfill fingerprinting requirements
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
• Two professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Additional Information

• Scrub technologist responsibilities span a broad range of surgical specialties in a high-volume OR environment
• Candidates who are or have been permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted for this position
• Time off requests of more than 5 non-holiday days require facility manager approval; all RTO must be submitted upfront
• The facility does not accommodate block schedules by default; schedule requests should be discussed with the manager
