American Traveler is seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist for a General OR position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 3 years of experience and prior travel experience.

• 562-bed acute care hospital designated as a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet facility in Illinois
• General OR setting with an average daily census of 50–60 cases per day
• Broad surgical patient population spanning ENT, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, trauma, urology, endoscopy, oral surgery, and more
• 4x10 day shift schedule (8:45–19:15)
• Once-monthly weekend obligation totaling 16 hours
• On-call required as needed for the department
• Floating within scope of practice is required, including to nearby affiliate hospitals
• Charting via Cerner
• Scrubs are provided for this role
• Free parking with a permit obtained during orientation

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of OR surgical tech experience required; at least 2 years must be recent (within the past 3 years) acute care/trauma level facility experience — outpatient experience does not count
• Level I Trauma experience required
• Neurosurgery experience required
• Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
• CST preferred
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• IL license required if applicable
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
• Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Required ENT skills: Direct Laryngoscopy, Radical Neck Dissection, Tonsillectomy/Adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy
• Required Endoscopic skills: Colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
• Required General Surgery skills: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon Resection (Open/LAP), Hernia Repair (Inguinal/Umbilical), Laparoscopic Assisted Procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy (Partial/Total)
• Required Gynecology skills: Abdominal Hysterectomy, Anterior/Posterior Repair, Bilateral Tubal Ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic Assisted Gynecological Procedures, Vaginal Hysterectomy
• Required Neurosurgery skills: Craniotomy, Laminectomy/Discectomy, Lumbar Fusion
• Required Oral Surgery skills: Repair of Fractured Jaws (Mandibular and Zygomatic)
• Required Orthopedic skills: Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal Tunnel Release, Closed/Open Reduction of Fractures, Laminectomy/Discectomy
• Required Plastics skills: Free Flap – Microvascular
• Required Trauma skills: Amputations, Gunshot/Stab Wounds, MVA (Multiple Injuries)
• Required Urology skills: Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic Assisted Cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy
• Required Professional Knowledge: Aseptic Technique, Isolation Precautions, Radiation Safety, Sharps Safety, Specimen Handling/Labeling, Universal Protocol (Time Out) Procedure
• Required equipment experience: Drills (Multiple Types), Electrosurgical Units, Fiber Optic Light Sources/Cords
• Emergency management knowledge required: Fire Safety
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Candidates must arrive in Illinois at least 3 business days prior to the compliance start date to complete fingerprinting requirements
• Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO may be approved; any additional time off requires facility approval — all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of initial application
• Former permanent or PRN employees of the facility must have been away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required for consideration
