American Traveler is seeking a Pediatric OR Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of pediatric scrub experience for a hospital-based Level I Pediatric Trauma Center position in Madison, WI.

• Work in a pediatric hospital OR setting at a Magnet®-designated, comprehensive pediatric medical and surgical center that is home to a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU
• Pediatric patient population ranging from neonates to adolescents across a wide range of surgical specialties
• Strong skills required in ophthalmology, urology, neurosurgery, and orthopedics
• Specialty procedures include pediatric ENT, craniofacial/plastics, general surgery, endoscopic procedures, transplant, and pediatric trauma cases
• Evening shift, 12-hour shifts Monday–Friday, 11:00–23:30, with weekend and holiday call responsibility
• Epic EMR (preferred)
• Travelers are the first to float and may be assigned to multiple units based on staffing needs; if the primary unit no longer has a need, shifts may be reassigned to another unit for the duration of the contract

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of recent pediatric scrub experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Level I Trauma experience required
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
• CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred
• Successfully completed a surgical technologist program; 2 years of experience in a Surgical Technologist role may be considered in lieu of program completion
• Experience across pediatric surgical specialties including eyes, urology, neuro, and ortho
• License required if applicable — must be in hand prior to consideration
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include scrubbing a wide variety of pediatric surgical cases including ENT, neurology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, urology, craniofacial/plastics, general surgery, transplant, and trauma
• Core duties include maintaining aseptic technique, sterile field preparation, instrument and sponge counts, specimen handling, laser and radiation safety, and universal protocol/time-out procedures
• Familiarity with surgical equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic equipment, drills, cell saver, and crash cart is expected
• Knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, decontamination processes, and sterile processing principles required
• Pass/fail testing is required prior to start with strict passing criteria; candidates have two attempts to pass — failure to pass after multiple attempts may result in contract cancellation
• Orientation is approximately one week and is held every other week; travelers should follow the start date and time listed in their welcome letter
• RTO requests are reviewed and approved by the manager during the candidate review process; generally, no more than 2 weeks off per contract is permitted
• Holiday coverage is required; specific holiday time-off requests are subject to manager approval
