American Traveler seeks an experienced Surgical Technologist for a CVOR position requiring primary scrubbing in complex open heart procedures at a Level 1 trauma center.

Details

• Position is in a hospital-based CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) within an acute care setting
• The CVOR operates 2-3 rooms each day with an average of 1-3 cases per day
• Cases include complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries such as CABG, valve repairs/replacements, aortic dissections, ECMO, VAD implants, TAVRs, carotid endarterectomy, thoracic cases, and congenital pediatric open heart surgeries
• Uses Epic EMR with experience preferred
• Schedule consists of four 10-hour day shifts (Monday through Friday, 0630-1700), with night, weekend, and holiday call coverage required
• Team members may float within the department of surgery (general, ortho, neuro, peds, SPD) if low census
• Surgical scrubs are provided with locker room access

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years' experience primarily scrubbing complex open heart procedures
• Completion of a surgical technologist program (not technician)
• BLS certification required
• Active IL license required or proof application has been initiated (license required if applicable)
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include primary scrubbing for open heart cases, assisting with surgical cases, and supporting the OR as a second circulator when not scrubbed in
• Expectation to precept new staff as needed
• Team includes nurses and surgical techs with support from a charge nurse on weekdays and 24/7 house supervisor
• Unit-specific orientation consists of mandatory education and up to 5 days CVOR-specific training
• Must comply with drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen
• Locker requires personal lock
• On-call requirements include approximately every third weekend and 2 nights per week
• Assisting experience in open heart cases preferred but not mandatory
• Congenital pediatric open heart experience is preferred but not required
